Mara is her school's favorite target. Classmates film her skin for clips they call Monster Cam, take her things and tell her to stay ugly so the rest of them have something to laugh at, and popular Sienna leads the pack. Then, on the night Mara wishes she could be somebody else, a voice answers: tell me which one hurt you first.
Vexa is pink, not human and says it crossed half a universe because it heard Mara crying — and it wants the names of everyone who ever touched her. Mara doesn't want to become like them. But after four girls corner her and end up frightened in front of a damaged wall, Sienna tells the school Mara attacked them with something pink, and one more incident means suspension.
