Ellie sets the table for an anniversary dinner with her fiancé Zachary and spends the evening alone again. He promises to be there in twenty minutes, then vanishes for Ruby, the former colleague he insists is just a friend. It is one more night on a long list of nights Ellie came second. Zachary calls her hurt jealousy, and Ruby keeps pushing into their trips and their work. So Ellie stops competing for scraps of attention, ends the engagement and goes home to her family in a small town. Then she discovers that her patents have been signed away into corporate schemes.
